About

Online service – Cesar Chavez Initiative

As we reflect on the life and work of Cesar Chavez today, we can't help but be reminded of his words:

“History will judge societies and governments — and their institutions — not by how big they are or how well they serve the rich and the powerful, but by how effectively they respond to the needs of the poor and the helpless.”

Chavez spent his life advocating for the rights of farm workers, who now today are yet again facing tremendous hardships in the midst of a global pandemic. Farm workers and domestic workers, many of whom are immigrant laborers, are living paycheck to paycheck, some anxious of deportation or becoming infected, many without sick leave or health insurance.

Go to the webpage of the organization that Cesar Chavez founded United Farm Worker  https://ufw.org/  and read to learn of them.  Select three actions and/or campaigns to participate in by writing, signing, or social media.  Take action in these three ways and document what you did.  Learning to write legislators is a practical lifetime skill which helps democracy work properly.

One hour of community service credit.

Thanks

  1. Have you or someone in your household traveled to a country on the CDC’s Level 3 watch list in the last 30 days? At this time, these include China, Iran, Italy and South Korea. These may change. See the CDC’s guidelines for the most up-to-date list.
  2. Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC’s risk assessment guidance.
  3. Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a fever, cough or shortness of breath. See the CDC’s symptom information.
If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, we ask you not to register. We are doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.
